Author Interview with Jasinda Wilder

20 Questions
(Author Interview)

1. Where do you write from?
My office, usually. Sometimes my laptop while my oldest daughter is at dance class.

2. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
It sort of happened gradually, I think. Both my husband and I had always written in one capacity or another, but it wasn’t until we turned to writing as potential way to earn additional income that we looked at it as a possible career.

3. How long does it take you to write a book?
usually around a month, maybe a little longer, plus another two weeks for editing and revising and such. But the actual writing usually takes around a month for a full length novel.

4. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Information comes from the internet, of course. Where do i get my ideas? That’s not an easy question to answer. From everywhere is the pat answer, but it’s more complicated than that. Ideas pop up in the most unexpected of places. I’ve had an idea for a book come from a commercial on TV, from watching a couple arguing in a restaurant, or from stitching together elements from a TV show and a book and a movie. Ideas are everywhere, it’s turning them into a full-length, believable, entertaining, emotionally compelling novel with fleshed out characters that’s tricky.

5. When did you write your first book and how old were you?
We wrote our first book four years ago, and we were both…less than forty and more than thirty, and let’s just leave it at that! ;-)

6. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Watch reality TV, catch up on emails and social media, spend time with my family, ride my horse...

7. What Genre do you write?
Romance, with a lot of sub-genres inside the romance category.

8. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
We’ve written and published sixty titles. I don’t know if i can pick a single favorite. Falling Into You will always hold a near and dear place in my heart, as will Big Girls Do It Better. Both of those books helped validate for Jack and I that we really did have stories worth telling which people wanted to read.

9. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Oh my yes. I get so many emails every single day that i can’t always even respond to them all right away. They ask about sequels to favorite books, they ask where i got the inspiration for a character or a story, or they thank me for writing a book that moved them in some way. I love those emails, because they remind me why I do what i do, why it’s worth it when it seems hard.

10. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to be singer.

11. Tell us about your current project.
Right now i’m finishing a top secret project which i really can’t say anything about at all, except that it’s going to be…a very BIG surprise, in a lot of ways. After that i’ll start working on the third book in the Alpha One Security series: DUKE.

12. How do you handle writers block?
Neither Jack nor I get writers block a lot. IF we do, we put that project aside and work on something else for a while, then go back to it. Sometimes we’ll keep writing despite the block, even if it’s nonsense or complete crap, we just push through the block, and eventually we’ll get the flow back.

13. What one subject is TABOO in your writing?
There really isn’t much. Jack and I write about real life. Most of the events we write about are predicated upon some semblance of reality. We don’t typically write about multiple partners, but even that isn’t really truly taboo, as in we wouldn’t ever; we did, actually, for a scene in one of the Rock Stars Do It books. We just prefer monogamous relationships in our books, because that’s just…sort of what we know and what we do best. WE don’t really do BDSM either, because that’s not our scene, but again, that’s not taboo, exactly, we just don’t write about it because that’s what we’re into, if you know what I mean.

14. If there was one book you wish you'd written, which would it be?
Hmmm. That’s a tough one. I’m a HUGE Twilight fan, so that might be one. But i more enjoy that book than i do wish i’d written it. I mean, I’d love to write a series that affects literally everyone the way Twilight did.

15. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Dishonesty. I don’t have time for lies or liars.

16. Is there one current tv show that is a "can't miss" for you?
I”m a die-hard Real Housewives junkie. Can’t miss OC, NJ, NY, or Beverly Hills. I’ve been watching them since the first episode—and so has Jack! But he might deny that, so don’t tell him I told you.

17. Who was your greatest influence?
Hmm, there’s been so many! Stephanie Meyer, Nora Roberts, my dear friend Bella Andre, Sherrilyn Kenyon.

18. How do you choose your book covers?
I tell my friend and amazing cover artist Sarah Hansen of Okay Creations what i’m sort of looking for in a cover, and she works her magic.

19. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
Writing is the fourth career I’ve worked. I was a head-hunter for a tech company and DJ, and then I taught voice, dance, and theater both privately and through public schools, and now i’m an author and self-publishing company.

20. How would a reader find you online? IE: Website, Facebook, Twitter, Street Team, Reader Group.
